The Masks We Wear

💎You know the saying, “fake it ’til you make it“? Well I believe as Christians we may have taken that saying a little too far. There is a certain standard that goes along with being a believer. If you show, hesitation, you’re in doubt. If you show concern, you’re of little faith. If you're sad you lack trust in God. What disturbs me the most is that these emotions are given by God and are there to help us navigate life issues. To deny they exist keeps up a facade we were never meant to live in.

💎As women, we can become experts at hiding the real ‘us’; the one who isn’t perfect at holding everything together all the time. We wear the mask of joy to let others believe we are not fazed by negative situations when they arise. We wear the mask of strength even when we are broken and bruised to show others we are powerful and fearless. We even wear the mask of beauty to hide our flaws and scars from the world. As a result we lose sight of our true self and who God created us to be.

💎Today I want to know it’s ok to not be ok sometimes! It’s fine to have some down days, bad hair days, no makeup days, no come to the rescue days. Give yourself permission to take your mask off! You cannot live up to the expectations of others forever. God knows that you will not always be ok. He knows there are times where you need a little more time to get it together. Not only does he expect understand it, He expects it.

💎So, do not allow the Christian faith to hold you in bondage to living a fraudulent life. God knows we are human and will have challenges, that was His very reason for sending Jesus to be tempted on every way that we would. If you need to take a break, take one; if you need to seek counseling, seek it; if you need to cry, cry. God has given you these emotions for you to release them and not to let them control you. God knows, sees and cares and so do I.

This is powerful! We as women have been trained to wear a mask, but we have to know when to take it off. Things will be ok if we’re maskless for a day or more! Thank you Sis❀
